Petra Mangum facilitates
many workshops and organizational groups, including but not
limited to healthier providers, physicians and national and
local conferences. She is deeply committed to her work advocating
HIV/AIDS prevention. Petra also was a member of the steering
committee with the Philadelphia Science Group for HIV Infection
in Adolescent and Adult Women in our nation's capital.
Providing a balance
between research and her own experiences, Petra was a well-received
keynote speaker at New York University Medical Center. Her address
entitled: Critical Issues in Nursing Leadership was presented
to over two hundred and fifty newly certified graduating nurses
of the University. In addition, she followed up this engagement
with The National People of Color HIV/AIDS Conference in Pauldin,
Arizona. She conducted a lively seminar on Traditional Medicines
and Alternative Therapies. Participants explored the role of
traditional medicines and learned to evaluate innovative alternative
therapies.
Her work stretches
from the halls of academia to the sidewalks of social services.
She has been requested to conduct many workshops at various
facilities including drug and alcohol for teens and adults,
colleges, transitional housing and hospice facilities, elementary
and secondary schools, senior citizen centers, group homes for
teens, correctional facilities, support groups and churches
of all denominations. Close to her heart was her work as a warm-line
operator for the New Jersey Women and AIDS Network, answering
phones and counseling women newly diagnosed with the virus.
Her commitment to
service focuses on how the individual can affect change. Widespread
changes, however, must be brought in concert with collaboration
with family, religious and social agencies. Simple one-shot
workshops and isolated training alone cannot equip the community
with a necessary shift in thinking about these issues. Cutting
edge research and compassion provides the necessary food and
drink for prevention, care and healthful living.
Petra Mangum is
an Ordained Missionary and Vice President of the Nurses' Auxiliary
at Revival Temple Center of Deliverance in Newark, NJ. And is
also a member of United Chaplain International Worldwide Outreach,
currently holding the position of Administrative Director of
the HIV/AIDS Ministry Department. Petra is certified by the
American Red Cross as an HIV/AIDS Educator, a Consultant, Motivational
Speaker and formally, as an Experiential Speaker for Hyacinth
Foundation's Speakers Bureau of New Brunswick, NJ. She has been
a Motivational Speaker for the W.A.R. (Wellness Awareness Restoration)
Ministry for over 10 years to the present. In summation,
Petra Mangum, is living well for over twenty-three years with
HIV and strongly believes in the heart of the gospel message:
To Love Our Neighbor. Her work fully demonstrates this alone
is our highest moral assignment.
